Profits and occupancy down as recession takes its toll

While 2007 and 2006 provided the hotel industry with the challenges of high levels of new room stock entering the market and an increasing cost base, 2008 brought the impact of falling demand on hotel profits to the forefront. The twin issues of lower demand and room stock capacity at its highest levels on record will be major challenges for the profit generating potential of hotels in Ireland for the next few years.[read on]
